10 Sep NEWS: Almeida Winter-Spring 2014/15 Season Announced

The Almeida Theatre have announced their Winter-Spring 2014/15 season, which takes a closer look at money, materialism and what we value.

Priority Booking for Members opens at 10am on Tuesday 16 September. Tickets go on sale to the public at 10am on Tuesday 23 September.

The season looks like this:

5 December – 14 February
The Merchant of Venice
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Rupert Goold

Rupert Goold brings his ground-breaking production of The Merchant of Venice to the Almeida featuring a cast including former Almeida Artistic Director Ian McDiarmid (Six Characters in Search of an Author, The Tempest, Utopia, Star Wars) and Susannah Fielding (American Psycho).

Explosively relocated to Las Vegas, Shakespeare’s most controversial play debuts at the Almeida in a whirlwind of glitter, gambling and greenbacks.

7 January – 7 February
The Fever
By Wallace Shawn
Directed by Robert Icke

Deeply thoughtful and beautifully written, Wallace Shawn’s confessional play cuts deep into our relationship to our world and our wealth.

Almeida Associate Director Robert Icke (1984, Mr Burns) directs Tobias Menzies (Game of Thrones, The Honourable Woman) who performs this searing monologue site-specifically in an intimate suite of The May Fair Hotel.

23 February – 4 April
Game
By Mike Bartlett
Directed by Sacha Wares

Invasive and unnerving, the World Premiere of Mike Bartlett’s provocative new play invites us to spy on a family as they explore a dangerous way to live.

This production, which radically reconfigures the Almeida auditorium, reunites Mike Bartlett (King Charles III) with acclaimed Director-Designer duo Sacha Wares and Miriam Buether (Wild Swans, Sucker Punch, My Child, generations).

10 April – 23 May
Carmen Disruption
By Simon Stephens
Directed by Michael Longhurst

This strange and beautiful new play by Simon Stephens reimagines Bizet’s opera Carmen and the possibility of love in a fractured urban world.

Directed by Michael Longhurst (Constellations) the UK Premiere of this play marks the Almeida debut of internationally-renowned writer Simon Stephens (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Birdland).
