11 Aug LOOK AHEAD: Parade at the London Theatre Workshop

Director – Jody Tranter
Musical Director – Erika Gundesen
Choreographer – Adam Scown

Parade LTWLondon Theatre Workshop have announced a revival of Jason Robert Brown’s Parade, for a strictly limited two week run this September.

A cast of 13 (!) will play multiple roles in the musical, originally staged on Broadway and in London at the Donmar Warehouse, which features music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown, the composer of “Songs For a New World” and “The Bridges of Madison County,” and book by Academy Award winner Alfred Uhry, screenplay writer of “Driving Miss Daisy”.

Starring Ross Barnes (Carousel Opera North, Little Shop of Horrors, White Bear/Landor) in the lead role, and Lily De-La-Haye as his wife, Parade tells the true story of Leo Frank, a man accused and tried for the rape and murder of a 13 year old employee amidst a media storm and intense public scrutiny.

Heavy in subject matter, Parade is a musical with the stamp of Olivier Award-nomination approval, with more than a handful of nominations under its belt, including one for best new musical. And whilst this production will undoubtedly be a very different beast in such an intimate setting, it sounds quite a lot like a revival worth watching…
