Aria Entertainment have announced the world premiere of new musical, The Verb, ‘To Love,’ by Andy Collyer. Building on an already strong reputation for producing exciting new musical theatre, The Verb, ‘To Love’ is an intimate new LGBTQ musical exploring the complications of changing relationships, and the power of different kinds of love.

Simon is lost, abandoned by James, his partner of twenty-three years. He is alone for the first time, until he finds Ben, the great love of his life, a young man seventeen years his junior, and finds himself rejuvenated and fulfilled in a way he never knew possible. They share the complications of falling in love, undergoing upheavals and experiencing change, until it all falls apart. But does it?

With a lot of aspiring musical theatre composers in London, writing a plethora of new shows, we asked Katy Lipson of Aria Entertainment why this musical was chosen, and what makes it special. She told us about how much she loves the story, and how it transcends categorisation, explaining that, “it’s a very different sort of musical. A one man show and more. A song-cycle but yet not…It’s funny, heart-breaking and warming all at the same time.”

As well as staging The Verb ‘To Love,’ Aria Entertainment are also running another From Page to Stage season, currently inviting applications for a third season dedicated to showcasing new British musical work in development. It’s unsurprising, then, that Katy Lipson, Company Director of Aria Entertainment is incredibly passionate about producing brand new musical theatre. She told us “I absolutely love musical theatre and 50% of the musicals I produce are new. I feel passionately about the evolution of the genre and being a supporter and innovator myself. I love the idea of telling new stories in new and interesting ways through the medium of song; a universal language of music.”

A one-act musical based on a true story, The Verb, ‘To Love’ will be showing at the Old Red Lion Theatre in late April and throughout May 2015.
