01 Aug LOOK AHEAD: Secret Island from Secret Studio Lab
Secret Studio Lab tonight present the first night of their much-anticipated brand new immersive theatrical production, The Island, in East London. Following an underground three month sold-out production of SE7EN DEADLY SINS, the original “secret” theatre company returns with a new production that looks set to be another hit, which at the time of going to press has already sold out all but four nights.
Described by Secret Studio Lab as “our most ambitious project to date,” this latest production looks to challenge social and political extremes that face East Londoners, all set on an actual secret island. To take part, buy a ticket to receive the location of the secret island, a password and all the information you will need.
The company, formerly known as Secret Theatre, was started by Artistic Director Richard Crawford in New York in 2007, as a way to create affordable and entertaining productions that not only support emerging artists, but also contribute to charity – this time, The Sharan Project, a UK charity that aims to empower, educate and inspire women of South Asian origin who have to left home forcefully or voluntarily because of issues like cultural conflict, family breakdown, disownment and forced marriage.
Previous productions include a sell-out production of Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands in a disused factory in New York, Diary of a Sociopath in a Theatre Asylum in Hollywood and, most recently in London, Reservoir Dogs, Hamlet, Freakazoid and Se7en Deadly Sins.
One thing seems clear: you’ll need to buy a ticket very soon if you don’t want to miss the boat.
