Girlfriends is set on a Bomber Command air base in Norfolk in the darkest days of World War II, amongst the volunteer ranks of the WAAF – young women who came from all corners of the UK (and the Commonwealth) to join Britain’s fight for survival against the Nazis: their loves and losses, their fears and friendships, their laughter and their bravery. They weren’t just part of history – they made it.
